Biscornu HELP!!

HELP!!!!!!!

I've stitched a lovely (free) biscornu heart pattern I found on the internet.  It measures 3 x 2.75 inches.  When I started to stitch it together, I realized, since it's not a perfect square, I was up a creek without a paddle.

I've never stitched one that wasn't square.  Does anyone have any guidance on how to finish it off into a biscornu?  Maybe I should put the pieces aside and use another pattern??

I'm keeping myself surrounded by stitches - how about you?   ~ Cheers ~

  1. Maybe you could leave a few empty spaces on the sides to even it out? That's the only thing I can think of... Good luck! :D

  2. I'll give a a try - unfortunately, I already trimmed the design for stitching, so I may be stuck. Thank you for the suggestion ;)

  3. Oh no!!! I've only assembled squared biscornu so not sure how to do this. Litke Sarah has advised I would have left enough "blank" space to make sure it comes to 3 inches, to make it square.
I hope you manage to sort this one out :)

  4. Make it square by stitching a border around the design. Biscornus will really only work if they are square. If you would like, send it to me and maybe I could get it finished for you. I love making them.

  5. You can do something different - pinkeep, mattress pincushion etc..

  6. If you haven't done so, maybe you could do a backstitch around the design with the same number of stitches then whip stitch together.

  8. if it isn't totally square then it won't work I am afraid and you mention earlier that you have trimmed it as well so you can't add a wee bit to it to make it square :( ... you will have to make it into a mattress or a wee pillow .... what pattern did you use ??? love mouse xxxx

  9. I'm no help here Kim I'm sorry... what a pest that is for you... did the pattern say to trim it to those measurements? seems strange to recommend a rectangle shaped piece for a biscornu... good luck with it Kim x

  10. Gracie has the correct solution. Make a border to make all sides square.
    Good Luck! love Annette

  11. Oh dear Kim. So sorry for the biscornu blues :( I think the other ladies have some good suggestions but yes, it would have to be square in order for it to work. Backstitching 1 thread away from your stitches may help a bit. http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/biscornu.htm this site may help you a bit. Good luck!

  12. A few months ago, I had finished stitching a biscornu design, and found a wonderful link to a biscornu finishing tutorial, which was wonderful. I printed it out, and found that stitching it together was much easier with pictures and instructions. The result was perfect! Here is the tutorial link: lhfinishingschool.wordpress.com/biscornu-class/. Hope it helps you!

    Blessings!

  14. It has to be square - try to even it out a bit with an extra row. If you can't just make it into a pinkeep cushion.
